Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may vary based on specific program and position, and may include but are not limited to the following:
• Under the general supervision of the Director of Forensic Service, the Jail Navigator operates in the Brown County Jail providing mental health/crisis assessments; evaluations for release from suicide watch within the jail; and review those that require follow up.
• The position will be critical in working with those that may require mental health oversight in the jail, and those enrolled into the Jail Continuity of Care program.
• The role will allow latitude for some independent judgement as it will oversee both the mental health treatment and forensic components of each individual’s case.
• Role will work closely with local criminal justice programs and court to ensure requirements are met.
• Primary responsibilities include providing continuity of care and ongoing coordination for individuals enrolled into the Jail Continuity of Care program, advocacy provision within the criminal justice system, and facilitation of program activities.
• Work will primarily be conducted in jail-based settings, but may at times consist of outpatient work.
• Position involves frequent in-person contact with individuals, families, and service providers.
• The role requires a flexible schedule, and the agency will provide a vehicle to carry out required work.
Competencies
The competencies listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals, interdisciplinary teams, and systems.
• Proficient in accurately and objectively recording data and documentation.
• Proficient in the use of computers using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Education and Experience:
• A bachelor or master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, social services or related field required to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
• Minimum of six month’s experience in behavioral health field is strongly desired.
• Knowledge of mental illness, intellectual disabilities, medications, resources and the criminal justice system is essential in performing a wide range of program activities.
• Professionalism in dealing with community officials and resources a must.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:
• Valid Driver’s License required
