Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may vary based on specific program and position, and may include but are not limited to the following:
• Serves under the general supervision of the Chief of Counseling Services or another designee as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
• Will provide peer support functions in accordance with current certification requirements and applicable laws and/or state statue
• Primary responsibilities are to help individuals achieve their own needs, wants, and goals. Peer Specialist will be guided by the principle of self-determination for all.
• Peer Specialist will maintain high standards of personal conduct. They will also conduct themselves in a manner that foster their own recovery and will openly share their recovery stories and will likewise be able to identify and describe the supports that promote their recovery.
• Work requires aggressive focus, attention to detail, timeliness, effective communication skills, and appropriate interaction with high level decision makers.
• The Peer Specialist must attest to have lived experience as a peer with a mental health diagnosis and current self-directed recovery.
• Work schedule will require flexible hours and changing deadlines.
• This position requires the use of a center vehicle.

The competencies listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals, interdisciplinary teams, and systems.
• Proficient in accurately and objectively recording data and documentation.
• Ability to follow established service implementation processes to meet the needs of individuals served and adhere to funding source requirements.
• Proficient in the use of computers using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Qualifications
• Must be able to meet the minimum requirements for certification of Mental Health Peer Specialist initial certification.
• Once having received the initial Mental Health Peer Specialist certification, the MHPS will have 6 months to complete 250 work experience hours that are supervised by certified Peer Specialist Supervisor.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED required.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:
• Valid Driver’s License required
