What is Coordinated Specialty Care for First Episode Psychosis (CSC-FEP)?<\/b><\/em><\/h2>\n

Coordinated Specialty Care for First Episode Psychosis (CSC-FEP) is a program that provides outpatient services for individuals who are between 15 to 30 years of age, regardless of the age of the individual at onset and meet the criteria for a psychotic disorder from the DSM-5-TR.<\/p>\n

The program includes the following services:<\/p>\n

  • Psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis<\/li>\n
  • Family education, support, and involvement<\/li>\n
  • Support from peers in recovery from mental illness<\/li>\n
  • Psychotropic medications prescribed by a psychiatrist<\/li>\n
  • Support for education and employment goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    What is Psychosis?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

    Psychosis is a symptom of mental illness. People experiencing psychosis may hallucinate or exhibit signs of paranoia, delusions, and disorganized thoughts and behaviors. For example, a person experiencing psychosis may:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Hear voices that only they can hear<\/span><\/li>\n
    • See something that only they can see<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Believe they have special powers<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Be suspicious of others<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Have trouble thinking clearly or concentrating<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      Sometimes, psychosis can be a symptom of a mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia. There are many possible causes of psychosis, including physical or mental illness, substance misuse, stress or trauma. Psychosis can affect any person, across all socioeconomic and ethnic groups. First Episode Psychosis describes the first occurrence of psychosis in people in their late teens to mid-twenties. About 100,000 people experience psychosis each year.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      Who is Eligible for the CSC for the first Episode Psychosis?<\/span><\/p>\n

      People 15\u201330 years old with a psychotic disorder diagnosed within the past two years are eligible for these services. Qualified applicants may have private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or no health insurance at all.<\/span>

      Yes, psychosis is treatable. Treatment is most effective when it begins in the year symptoms first occur.
